Job Summary

Pharmacy technicians are essential members of the healthcare team, working alongside clinical pharmacists, community pharmacists, and other professionals within the PCN. Unlike clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians do not prescribe or make clinical decisions, but they work under supervision to ensure the effective and efficient use of medicines.

Pharmacy technicians’ core responsibilities encompass clinical, technical, and administrative functions.

Main Duties of the Job

The primary purpose of this role is to lead improvements that maximize safe and cost-effective prescribing practices, thereby enhancing the quality of patient care. The post holder will assist patients in getting the most benefit from their medications by implementing approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes, promoting repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimizing clinical risk, and reducing medicine waste.

Additionally, the post holder will promote a deeper understanding of medicines optimization within practice teams and encourage adherence to best practices in line with therapeutic advancements. This includes supporting the PCN in meeting national standards, implementing NICE guidelines, and utilizing medicines optimization initiatives.

The post holder will be enrolled in the 15-month Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway with the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) if they have not already completed it.
