About the Role

We are seeking a Scientific Data Analyst to join our data management team at the MLC. This role provides an exciting opportunity to apply knowledge of in-vivo biological data and develop skills in data management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize existing data management pipelines for comprehensive validation of complex scientific datasets.
  • Develop and maintain data analysis pipelines for various biological datasets using Python, SQL, and database management tools.
  • Collaborate with animal technicians and researchers to determine steps necessary for data validation.
  • Identify, review, investigate, and resolve issues within in-vivo datasets.
  • Manage and maintain database tables and relationships within the database.
  • Work daily with the data management team to discuss technical issues and inform key stakeholders about plans and solutions.
  • Communicate effectively within the team and with stakeholders regarding data, data issues, and processes.
  • Structure communication with both technical and non-technical teams to diagnose data issues and ensure systematic logging of information.
  • Support and mentor junior team members.
  • Collaborate with software developers to standardize and automate data upload and validation processes.
  • Ensure data validation is completed according to schedule, prioritizing work to maintain timelines.
  • Contribute to data standards, documentation, protocols, and Gitlab repositories.
  • Expand knowledge of in-vivo measurements as MLC innovates and integrates new datasets, such as telemetry and video-tracking data.

Person Requirements

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential:

  • Qualification in the life sciences (PhD or MSc) or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Project management training or qualifications.
  • Training or qualification in relevant technical skills such as coding or database management.

Previous Work Experience

Essential:

  • Experience managing, validating, and analyzing scientific datasets.
  • Consistency and independence in long-term project work.
  • Experience in decision-making and communicating with teams and stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Independent work on a technical project.
  • Experience in building and using technical pipelines for data management.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • Advanced understanding of in-vivo experimentation.
  • Technical skills in at least one of the following: coding, SQL, database management, Excel VBA, Tableau/Power BI, or other relevant tools.
  • Ability to understand the complexity of scientific datasets.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of data management and analysis concepts.
  • Understanding of data repository architecture and relational database management.
  • Experience with statistical methods such as power calculations and linear mixed-effect models.
