Summary

As a Specialist Pharmacist in Women’s and Children’s Health, you will be a vital member of our healthcare team, ensuring the highest standards of pharmaceutical care. Your role will involve leadership, clinical responsibilities, financial management, people management, and research and service development. Leadership Responsibilities

  • Deputy Leadership: Act as a deputy to the Principal Pharmacist for Women and Children, leading clinical pharmacy services and implementing policies to enhance patient care.
  • Policy Development: Propose and implement evidence-based policies and procedures in line with national and international guidelines.
  • Service Enhancement: Lead and comment on policy and service changes, participating in departmental and Trust-wide pharmacy service developments.
  • Guideline Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate prescribing guidelines and protocols, ensuring alignment with local and national frameworks.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend and contribute to inpatient, outpatient, and Care Group meetings, representing pharmacy views.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Specialist Practice: Act as an expert in paediatrics and maternity, delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care.
  • Clinical Advice: Provide specialized clinical advice to healthcare professionals within and outside the Trust.
  • Ward Participation: Participate in consultant ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary meetings to promote patient-focused care.
  • Independent Prescribing: Practice as an independent prescriber, providing direct care within your expertise.
  • Patient Education: Engage in patient medication reviews and education schemes, ensuring timely medication supply and efficient clinical liaison.

Financial Management

  • Expenditure Monitoring: Assist the Principal Pharmacist in monitoring drug expenditure, providing analysis and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Cost-Effective Prescribing: Implement policies to control drug costs and educate healthcare professionals on cost-effective prescribing practices.
  • Financial Meetings: Attend financial meetings to discuss and manage drug expenditure across primary and secondary care settings.

People Management and Performance

  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and manage junior staff, addressing performance and recognizing excellence.
  • Talent Management: Identify and support talent within the team, ensuring proper resource allocation and succession planning.
  • Training and Development: Participate in the teaching and supervision of students and staff, ensuring continuous professional development.

Research and Service Development

  • Research Participation: Lead and coordinate research and audit projects to improve service quality, publishing and presenting findings as appropriate.
  • Audit Supervision: Supervise junior staff in audit projects, enhancing the overall pharmacy service.

General Responsibilities

  • Health and Safety: Maintain personal and colleague health, safety, and well-being, adhering to Trust policies and professional obligations.
  • Confidentiality: Ensure strict confidentiality of patient and staff information.
  • Professional Development: Actively engage in personal and colleague development, contributing to a supportive and inclusive work environment.

  • Safeguarding: Support the Trust’s safeguarding responsibilities by attending mandatory training and reporting concerns appropriately.
