About the Role

From September 2024, the University of Bath will expand its highly ranked MPharm pharmacy course to include a campus at the University of Plymouth. This extension will significantly enhance the opportunities for students to pursue pharmacy studies in the region. The course will be delivered in collaboration with NHS England and various local stakeholders.

With the upcoming changes to pharmacy education, all pharmacists will be able to prescribe upon registration from 2026, creating a diverse array of career roles. Initially, the course will enroll 25 students in September 2024, increasing to 40 students over time.

To support this expansion, we are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Pharmacy Practice Technician. This role is a crucial part of a larger team but will primarily involve independent work in dedicated pharmacy teaching spaces at our Plymouth campus. The technician will support pharmacy practice teaching by collaborating with academics and pharmacy practitioners to develop and prepare resources and demonstrate clinical and simulation equipment usage.

  • Develop, prepare, and demonstrate the use of clinical and simulation equipment for practical classes.
  • Maintain a highly organized approach to planning and proactively address time-sensitive duties.
  • Support researchers by offering guidance and purchasing support for controlled substances.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance, including risk assessments.
  • Engage with external engineers and contractors to ensure continuity of service.

About You

The successful  Specialist Technician (Pharmacy Practice) candidate will:

  • Utilize technical expertise to support pharmacy practice teaching, including the use and maintenance of simulated manikins and software.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, independence, and flexibility in their approach to work.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Have experience in health and safety compliance, with knowledge of pharmacy law and the handling, storage, and security of medicines and controlled substances.

Additional Information

Considerations for part-time and flexible working arrangements will be made. Flexibility is required due to potential changes in teaching schedules from semester to semester. Although based in Plymouth, initial training and shadowing will take place at the Bath campus, with opportunities to collaborate with the rest of the technical team.
