Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Deputy Chief Pharmacist to join our team at NHS Jobs. This role is crucial in providing leadership, development, strategy, and management of all pharmaceutical services within the Trust. The successful candidate will support the Chief Pharmacist and deputize in their absence across various forums, including external engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Support to Chief Pharmacist: Assist in all aspects of department management and deputize for the Chief Pharmacist when needed.
  • Day-to-Day Management: Ensure smooth operation of the pharmacy department, maintaining high standards of service.
  • Team Leadership: Line manage senior pharmacists, advanced practitioner pharmacists, and the Senior Pharmacy Team, including performance management and appraisals.

Strategic Development

  • Non-Medical Prescribing Lead: Implement the Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) strategy as delegated by the Chief Nurse/Pharmacist.
  • Clinical Governance: Oversee clinical risk management, ensuring compliance with legislation.
  • Change Management Projects: Lead designated pharmacy change projects, including EPR and NMP initiatives.
  • Policy Development: Create and update relevant policies and standard operating procedures for pharmacy services.

Education and Training

  • Staff Development: Lead the education, training, and development of all pharmacy staff, including senior pharmacists and the Teacher Practitioner Lead Pharmacist.

Resource Management

  • Resource Utilization: Collaborate with the Chief Pharmacist on workforce planning, skill mix reviews, and implementation of new roles.
  • Service Standards: Develop, implement, and monitor standards for pharmacy services within the Trust.
  • Recruitment: Participate in recruitment processes, including short-listing, interviewing, and appointing new staff.
